This is the earliest style of cloak - 2 yards of wool fastened by a brass Pennacular Brooch. This was worn by Vikings, Anglo Saxons, the Germanic tribes, Vandals, Volgars, Romans, etc. This item is 2 yards of wool. We also have two types of cloak pins for addtional - a simple brass pin, or a celtic carved silver pin. Both pins are made in the USA by artisans we found on ebay, and are part of our 'sponsor local vendors made in USA'. All our clothing is made in the USA by sewers earning a fair wage.
Pictured is True Thomas the Story teller wearing the Hegira cloak with the brass cloak pin and the checkered wool. We also carry the Thor's hammer pendant and the viking/Anglo Saxon mug which is documented. All made in the USA.
Hegira means migration. We chose this name for this cloak because it was common during the 'migration' historical period, which was a period of intensified human migration in Europe from about 400 to 800 AD. We have NEVER seen this used on a cloak before. We are using it to distinguish it from our other cloaks and capes and ponchos.
The fabric is imported from Asia, which is how we can offer such a great deal. We also get the last bolts of items which is great for price but we can't get more of the fabric. It's hard to get exact plaid matches, but they are very similar. So we are calling them 'red', 'blue' and 'brown' to reflect the main colors.
